Crisp and Golden Mac and Cheese Cakes on the Grill
Turn yesterday's leftover macaroni into today's crispy, golden side dish with this easy wood-fired recipe.
Every Arteflame sears at over 1,000°F in the center, so choosing a size is not about how well it cooks. It is about how many people you cook for, where the grill will stand, and how you like to cook: sitting down, at the table, standing up, or around a fire. This guide shows each size next to a 6 ft person and explains what each one is best for.
Group sizes are a guide for cooking a full meal at once. Prices are for the standard Corten models as of October 2026.

The ONE20 is 20 inches across and 20 inches tall. That puts the cooktop at about the height of a coffee table or the seat of a lounge chair, so it works like a coffee table you cook on. Pull it up between two lounge chairs or next to the sofa and you can sear a steak, turn the skewers and pour another drink without standing up.
Its 300+ square inches of cooking surface comfortably feeds up to four people. It also heats up fastest of all the sizes, ready to sear in about 15 minutes. If you prefer to cook standing, the 10″ base riser included in the complete set raises it to 30″.
Choose the ONE20 if:
Because it burns real wood or charcoal, the ONE20 needs open air and clearance around it. It is made for ground-floor patios and open-air courtyards, not balconies.
The ONE30 is 30 inches across and 30 inches tall, the same height as a dining table. Set it at the end of your outdoor table and the cooking becomes part of the meal: steaks sizzle an arm's length away and plates are passed straight off the cooktop, without anyone walking back and forth to the kitchen.
With 700+ square inches of cooking surface, it cooks a complete meal for the whole family at once, for example four steaks on the center grate with potatoes, vegetables and garlic bread around the ring. Its 3/8″ carbon-steel cooktop heats up faster than the 40″ grills, in roughly 20 to 25 minutes. An optional stand raises it to 40″.
Choose the ONE30 if:
The 40″ grills are 40 inches across and 40 inches tall, about bar height. You cook standing up, and because the cooktop is round with the fire in the middle, guests can gather all the way around it instead of watching your back. With more than 1,250 square inches of cooking surface and a ½″ carbon-steel cooktop, they handle a crowd: sear the proteins on the center grate while vegetables, seafood and bread cook on the ring.
The 40″ size comes on several bases:
The 40″ grills take the longest to come up to heat, about 30 to 40 minutes. For parks, campgrounds and other public spaces there is also the vandal-resistant Park Series.
Choose a 40″ grill if:
The fire pits put the same 40″ fire bowl on a short base, 22″ tall overall, about the height of a chair seat, or with no base for built-in installations. They are made for evenings around the fire, and the cooktop models let you cook a full meal from your chair first.
Choose a fire pit if: the fire comes first and the cooking second, you want to sit low around the flames with family and friends, or you are building the fire into a masonry surround or outdoor kitchen. See our fire pit with cooktop guide for more.
Yes. Every Arteflame reaches over 1,000°F on the center grate and has cooler zones toward the edge of the cooktop. The sizes differ in how much food fits at once and in height, not in how well they sear.
The ONE20. It heats up fastest, uses the least fuel and still has room for a full meal for two to four people.
No. Like every Arteflame it burns real wood or charcoal, so it needs open air and clearance around it. It is made for ground-floor patios and open-air courtyards. Always check your local fire rules.
Not if you entertain often or have the space. For everyday family dinners, the ONE30 cooks a full meal for the family, heats up faster and fits a standard patio.
Yes. The ONE20 complete set includes a 10″ base riser that raises it to 30″. The ONE30 has an optional stand that raises it to 40″.
They share the same fire bowl and cooktop. The grill stands on a tall base at about bar height for cooking standing up; the fire pit sits on a short base, 22″ tall, at about seat height, for sitting around the fire.
