That one-piece construction makes it the largest spun-steel fire bowl made in North America, with a smooth, organic shape you simply can't get from a welded fire pit.

No wood fire is completely smokeless. Ten 1-inch holes in the bottom of the fire bowl feed air to the fire from below, which helps it burn well. Burn dry, seasoned hardwood to keep smoke down; wet or green wood smokes the most.

No cover needed. CORTEN, also known as "weathering" steel, is designed to be left outside year-round. Rather than rusting through the way ordinary steel would, it develops a stable, protective patina that actually changes color with the seasons — deepening from a soft amber to a rich, rusted bronze.

Very little. Empty the cooled ash after each use and let the CORTEN steel do the rest — there's no repainting, resealing, or covering required. The patina that develops over time is part of the look, not something to prevent.

Thickness and alloy. Many fire pits and grills are made from 14-gauge mild steel, about 1.9 mm (0.075") thick and protected only by paint. Arteflame fire bowls and grill bodies are 10-gauge CORTEN, about 3.4 mm (0.135") thick: nearly twice as much steel. CORTEN, also called "weathering" steel, also corrodes more slowly outdoors than ordinary steel, because its alloy forms a tight, protective patina. In long-term measurements in polluted industrial air, weathering steel lost about 2 µm a year against about 50 µm for conventional structural steel (SteelConstruction.info).
If the surface gets scratched, the exposed steel forms the same patina again. There is no paint or powder coat to blister near the fire, and the warm, changing color is part of the design.

Every Arteflame is built with gas conversion in mind. In the bottom of the firebowl there are 10 holes. The center hole is sized to take a 1-inch gas pipe, so your grill can be converted to gas by a professional installer whenever you're ready.

Can I cook on this fire pit?

What base options are there?
A low round base, a low Euro base, or no base for a built-in installation in masonry or an outdoor kitchen.
How big is it?
40" across. On a low base it stands 22" high, and the base is about 21" across. It weighs about 50 lb.
What should I burn in it?
Dry, seasoned hardwood such as oak, hickory, maple or fruit woods. Charcoal also works. Avoid softwoods like pine, which throw sparks and smoke, and manufactured logs.
What is the bowl made of?

Where can I put it?
On a patio of concrete, brick, stone or pavers, outdoors and at least 10 feet from anything that can burn, as NFPA and the U.S. Fire Administration advise.
