Michiel Schuitemaker, founder of Arteflame

I'm Michiel Schuitemaker, founder and president of Arteflame. I was born in the Netherlands, became a U.S. citizen, and have spent my entire career in American steel manufacturing.

Arteflame began with a request from my wife, Jennifer, an avid cook. She asked for a grill that was simple to use and easy to maintain, round with no lid so people would gather around it, and one more thing: "Can you make it a piece of art?" I also wanted a grill that didn't make me turn my back on our guests while I cooked.

The result is a Corten-steel grill with a flat-top cooktop around a 1,000°F center grate that doubles as a fire pit. I designed it with no seams, fasteners, screws, valves or moving parts, so it can stay outside year-round with almost no maintenance. Every Arteflame is made in the U.S. from American steel, today in Phoenix, Arizona.

I've cooked more than 1,000 recipes on my own Classic 40, most of them at home in Scottsdale, Arizona, and before that in Beverly Hills, California. The other recipes on this site are new combinations of ingredients and techniques I've already cooked on the Arteflame. I created them with the help of AI but, more importantly, with Super Intelligence: my wife, Jennifer. They use the same methods, heat zones and temperatures, but not every combination has been cooked and photographed on its own.
