Grilled Spätzle Recipe on the Arteflame: A German Classic Reimagined


Spätzle, the quintessential German noodle, is typically boiled and then pan-fried to perfection. This version takes Spätzle outdoors, introducing a delightful smoky flavor by grilling it on the Arteflame. Perfect as a side dish or a main course, this recipe is sure to impress with its unique blend of traditional taste and modern grilling flair.


  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • Salt, to taste
  • Freshly ground nutmeg, to taste
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
  • 1/4 cup fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)
  • Grated Parmesan cheese (optional, for serving)


  • Arteflame Grill
  • Large bowl
  • Spätzle maker or large colander with holes
  • Cast iron skillet or griddle (for the Arteflame)


  1. Make the Spätzle Dough:

    • In a large bowl, mix together the flour, eggs, milk, a pinch of salt, and nutmeg until you have a smooth, thick batter.
  2. Boil the Spätzle:

    • Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Using a Spätzle maker or a colander, press the dough through the holes directly into the boiling water. Cook until the Spätzle floats to the surface, then remove it with a slotted spoon and cool under cold water. Drain well.
    • NOTE: You can easily do this on the grill as well!
  3. Preheat the Arteflame:

    • Heat your Arteflame grill.
  4. Grill the Spätzle:

    • Toss the boiled Spätzle with melted butter, then spread it on the hot flat cooktop. Grill until the Spätzle is crispy and golden brown, stirring occasionally.
  5. Serve:

    • Garnish the grilled Spätzle with chopped parsley and, if desired, sprinkle with grated Parmesan cheese. Serve immediately.
