Arteflame Classic 40" Fire Pit with Cooktop

Regular price $1,995

Two Experiences, One Fire

The Arteflame Classic 40" Fire Pit with Cooktop pairs steakhouse-quality grilling with the largest spun-steel fire bowl made in North America — formed on the same industrial metal-spinning machine used to shape the dome of R2-D2 for Star Wars. The fire bowl itself is spun from a single piece of CORTEN steel with no welds and no seams, giving it a lifetime of durability and a perfectly smooth, organic shape, and its natural patina changes color with the seasons as it lives outdoors year-round. Ten precision 1-inch holes in the base feed the fire from below for a virtually smokeless burn. Grill dinner on the ½" solid steel cooktop, searing at 1,000°F+ with real wood-fired flavor — then, once you're done cooking, simply lift the cooktop off and the fire bowl becomes a fire pit for the rest of the evening. It's a great combination of both. Comes complete with the center grill grate and seasoning puck so you can get grilling right away.

Which grill size is best for me?

20″ (ONE20): 20″ tall, coffee table height, with 300+ sq in of cooking surface for 2–4 people. Best for lounge-side and seat-side grilling on small patios and courtyards.

30″ (ONE30): 30″ tall, table height, with 700+ sq in for 4–8 people. Best for family-style grilling and serving right at the dining table.

40″ grills: 40″ tall, bar height, with 1,250+ sq in for 8 or more. Best for larger gatherings, cooking standing up with guests around you. The 40″ fire pits use the same cooktop on a short base, 22″ tall, for sitting around the fire.

Can I use this as a fire pit too, or is it just for grilling?

Both — and switching between them takes seconds. Once dinner's done, lift the ½″ solid steel cooktop off the fire bowl (no tools required) and you've got an open fire pit for the rest of the evening. The fire bowl itself is the largest spun-steel one made in North America, formed on the same industrial metal-spinning machine used to shape the dome of R2-D2 for Star Wars — a single piece of CORTEN steel with no welds or seams. Ten precision 1-inch holes in the base feed the fire from below, so even with the cooktop off you get a virtually smokeless burn — just pull up chairs and enjoy the glow. Set the cooktop back on whenever you're ready to grill again.

What is the advantage of a solid steel griddle cooktop vs grill grates?

A flat, solid steel griddle opens up what you can actually cook — scrambled eggs, bacon, pancakes, smash burgers, shrimp, delicate fish, vegetables, even a sauce or side in a pan — foods that would fall through open grates or stick and tear on a grill. On the solid steel cooktop, the steel sits between the fire and the food, so grease can't drip into the flames. That makes flare-ups impossible on the cooktop, so your food doesn't get scorched by them. The flat surface also lets flavors mingle right on the cooktop, the way a good diner griddle works, and cleanup is a single flat surface to scrape rather than picking food out of grates. You're not giving up the classic sear, though — the center grill grate is always there in the middle of the cooktop, ready whenever you want true open-flame char and grill marks on a steak or burger. You get the full versatility of a griddle and the sear of a grill, on one cooktop.

Why buy a wood grill when I can get the convenience of gas?

Arteflame runs on hardwood or lump charcoal, which is what makes the 1,000°F+ sear and real wood-fired flavor possible — something a home gas grill can't match. And remember what you're actually cooking over with propane: the same fossil fuel that powers buses, generators, and forklifts. Would you want your steak seared over exhaust fumes? Wood and charcoal give you clean, natural heat and flavor instead. It's still just as easy to live with: preheat in 20–30 minutes, one fire with built-in hot and cool zones instead of a row of burner dials, and a cooktop that essentially cleans itself as the fire burns off drippings. If you'd still like the flip-a-switch option, a gas conversion is available — but most owners stick with wood or charcoal for the sear and flavor it delivers.

What is the cleaning and maintenance like?

Minimal. Scrape the cooktop clean with a griddle scraper while it's still warm — the fire burns off most of what's left — then wipe on a light coat of oil to protect the seasoning, the same way you'd care for a cast-iron skillet. There's no porcelain coating to chip and no grates to scrub. Empty the cooled ash after each use, and keep the CORTEN steel body's drain holes clear; it's built to weather outdoors and develop its own natural patina over time. Whether you spent the evening grilling or just let the fire burn down as a fire pit, the cleanup routine is exactly the same.

How long does it take to heat up?

Allow 30–45 minutes for the ½″ hot-rolled steel cooktop to heat through, and a little longer in cold weather. That build-up time lets the cooktop work as a heat reservoir: once it is hot, the center grill grate runs over 1,000°F, the cooktop about 450–550°F near the inner edge and 250–350°F toward the outer edge.

And once you're done cooking, that same fire keeps going — lift the cooktop off and it's ready to enjoy as a fire pit for the rest of the evening.

How do I clean the grill?

  1. While the cooktop is still hot, push food debris and excess oil into the center fire with a straight-edge griddle scraper.
  2. Wipe the surface with a light coat of oil while it's still warm — this feeds the seasoning and guards against oxidation as it cools.
  3. Once the grill has cooled completely, scoop out the ash with a plastic cup or ash tool.
  4. If any oxidation spots appear, buff them out with a Brillo pad, steel wool, or fine sandpaper — this is rare with regular use.

Treat the cooktop like cast iron: no harsh chemical cleaners and no heavy scrubbing required.

Why would I want CORTEN steel over regular steel?

Thickness and alloy. Many fire pits and grills are made from 14-gauge mild steel, about 1.9 mm (0.075") thick and protected only by paint. Arteflame fire bowls and grill bodies are 10-gauge CORTEN, about 3.4 mm (0.135") thick: nearly twice as much steel. CORTEN, also called "weathering" steel, also corrodes more slowly outdoors than ordinary steel, because its alloy forms a tight, protective patina. In long-term measurements in polluted industrial air, weathering steel lost about 2 µm a year against about 50 µm for conventional structural steel (SteelConstruction.info).

If the surface gets scratched, the exposed steel forms the same patina again. There is no paint or powder coat to blister near the fire, and the warm, changing color is part of the design. The cooktop is a separate ½" plate of hot-rolled steel, not CORTEN, designed to last a lifetime.

Common Questions

Is it a fire pit, a grill or a griddle?

All three. The 40" steel cooktop is a griddle ring around a live fire in the center. With the center grill grate in place you sear over the flames, and when dinner is done you can lift the cooktop off and enjoy an open fire.

How hot does the cooktop get?

The center grill grate reaches over 1,000°F. The cooktop runs about 450–550°F near the inner edge and 250–350°F toward the outer edge, so you can sear, cook and keep food warm at the same time. Allow 30–45 minutes for the steel to heat through.

How much cooking space is there?

1,250+ sq in on the flat-top ring. The fire pit is 40" across, stands 22" high on a low base and weighs about 210 lb.

Can I remove the cooktop?

Yes. The ½" hot-rolled steel cooktop lifts off, so it also works as an open fire pit.

What fuel does it use?

Hardwood or lump charcoal. Dry, seasoned hardwood such as oak, hickory, maple or fruit woods add a light, smoky flavor.

How do I care for the cooktop?

Scrape it clean while it is still warm and wipe on a light coat of oil. This builds a natural, low-stick patina and protects the steel. If rust appears, heat the cooktop, scrape off loose rust and re-oil.

What is it made of?

The cooktop is ½" solid hot-rolled steel, not Corten, designed to last a lifetime. The fire bowl is U.S. Corten (weathering) steel, which forms a protective patina instead of ongoing rust. Corten steel and how to prevent patio staining

Where can I put it?

On a patio of concrete, brick, stone or pavers, outdoors and at least 10 feet from anything that can burn, as NFPA and the U.S. Fire Administration advise. Keep it off wooden and composite decks and away from siding, eaves and overhanging branches, and check your local fire rules. Fire pit safety on a deck or patio

I love this grill - it's made of half-inch carbon steel and corten "weathering" steel with a cooktop that heats from the center out.

A Symphony of Grilling Excellence

Introducing the Arteflame Classic 40" Fire Pit with Cooktop – your gateway to wood-fired grilling adventures. Because the cooktop is one continuous ½" solid steel surface with heat radiating outward from a single center fire, you get several temperature zones on one grill at the same time: a 1,000°F+ sear zone on the center grate, 450–550°F on the cooktop toward the inner edge, and 250–350°F toward the outer edge. Every 40″ Arteflame uses the same cooktop, and we have measured these zones many times on our own Classic 40 (how the heat zones work). That means steaks, chicken, vegetables, and shrimp can all be cooking exactly the way they need to, all at once, on the same fire.

It also means you never have to run back inside to the stove. Set a sauté pan of onions or a pot of pasta water right on the cooktop next to your protein, and your entire meal — starter to dessert — comes together outdoors, on one grill.

And because it's a solid steel surface instead of open grates, you can cook things a regular grill simply can't handle: scrambled eggs, pancakes, bacon, hash browns, delicate fish, even a shrimp scampi — nothing falls through, and nothing flares up. This complete starter bundle brings it all home in one package, with essential accessories included so you're ready to grill the moment it arrives.

Two Products in One: Grill by Day, Fire Pit by Night

Once the meal's done, lift the ½" solid steel cooktop off — no tools required — and reveal the open fire bowl underneath. What was searing steaks minutes ago becomes a true fire pit, the natural gathering point for the rest of the evening. There's something almost primal about pulling chairs up around an open flame: conversations run longer, phones stay in pockets, and everyone finds a reason to stay just a little later. Toast marshmallows over the embers, keep a blanket close, and let the fire do the rest — then put the cooktop back on for the next cookout.

Premium Corten Steel Construction for Durability

Crafted from high-grade US CORTEN steel, known for its weathering properties, the Arteflame 40" Fire Pit is not just a barbecue but a durable piece of art — the largest spun-steel fire bowl made in North America, spun from a single seamless piece with no welds or seams. Its low round base and seamless spun bowl are designed to withstand the elements and age beautifully.

Steakhouse-Quality Searing at Home

Elevate your home grilling with the ability to achieve those elusive 1,000°F+ sears. The Arteflame Classic 40" Flat Top Grill lets you transform ordinary steaks into gourmet delights, boasting that crisp, steakhouse-style outer layer while retaining a succulently juicy interior. Many steakhouses advertise their wood-fired grills and hard sears for a reason: that combination turns a good steak into a great one. An Arteflame brings that same steakhouse-level searing power home, which is exactly why people buy one.

A Complete Culinary Experience

With the Arteflame's range of heat zones you can grill an entire feast at once, and every dish picks up real wood-fired flavor, not just heat. It's the same reason many pizzerias fire their ovens with wood instead of gas: smoke and char add a depth of flavor gas doesn't. On an Arteflame, that same wood flavor works like a seasoning on everything you cook, not just pizza — steaks pick up a rich, smoky char, and vegetables take on a subtle sweetness you simply can't get any other way. Different woods bring different character too, from bold hickory and mesquite to milder fruit woods like apple and cherry, so half the fun is experimenting. What's your favorite wood combination?

Versatility of the Arteflame Classic 40" Barbecue

Transition effortlessly from grilling gourmet meals to enjoying a serene fire bowl ambiance. Whether you're cooking with wood, charcoal, or enjoying it as a fire pit, the Arteflame 40" Fire Pit offers flexibility for any occasion.

Easy Maintenance and Year-Round Durability

Left outside through every season, the Arteflame's CORTEN "weathering" steel body doesn't need covering, repainting, or babying — it develops a rich, rust-colored patina that only gets more beautiful with age, the same material prized in modern architecture and outdoor sculpture. Cleanup after cooking is just as simple: scrape the cooktop while it's still warm, empty the cooled ash, and it's ready for the next fire. Less time maintaining it means more evenings actually enjoying it.
