The Arteflame 40" is the largest grill and griddle combo in the line, with 1,250+ sq in of cooking surface around a hardwood or lump charcoal fire. The center grill grate passes 1,000°F for searing. The 1/2" hot-rolled steel cooktop around it runs about 450–550°F near the fire and 250–350°F toward the outer edge, measured on our own Classic 40. That is room for steaks for a crowd on the grate while vegetables, seafood and smash burgers cook on the steel. Lift the cooktop off after dinner and it is a fire bowl.

Why choose the 40"
- Cook for a crowd. 1,250+ sq in lets you sear proteins, cook sides and toast bread at the same time.
- A 1/2" steel cooktop of hot-rolled steel, designed to last a lifetime.
- Heat zones without knobs. Move food between the hot inner edge and the cooler rim.
- No flare-ups on the cooktop. The steel sits between the fire and the food.
- A centerpiece. A round, sculptural grill that people gather around, and a fire bowl after dinner.
Built to stay outside
Arteflame fire bowls and grill bodies are 10-gauge Corten steel, about 3.4 mm (0.135") thick. That is nearly twice the 14-gauge mild steel, about 1.9 mm, that many fire pits are made of. Corten is a weathering steel: outdoors it forms a rust-colored patina that protects the surface and needs no paint. The Platinum Series uses a spun stainless steel fire bowl instead. You always cook on a separate cooktop of hot-rolled steel, never on the Corten. Every Arteflame is made in the USA, ships free within the continental US and carries a 3-year limited warranty.
Questions
How many people can a 40" Arteflame cook for?
With 1,250+ sq in of cooking surface, it is built for hosting a crowd: steaks on the center grate and sides, seafood or burgers on the cooktop at the same time.
Round, Storage or Euro base: what is the difference?
They hold the same grill and cooktop. The tall Round base is a solid sculptural column, the Storage base adds space for wood and tools, and the Euro base stands on slide-together legs for a lighter look.
How long does an Arteflame take to heat up?
Allow 30–45 minutes after you light the fire for the steel cooktop to heat through. The center grill grate is ready for searing once the fire has burned down to a strong bed of coals.
Can it run on gas?
It burns hardwood or lump charcoal, with no propane tank or gas line. The 40" Classic, Platinum and fire pit models have a center hole in the fire bowl sized for a 1-inch gas pipe, so a professional installer can convert them to gas.
How do I care for the cooktop?
Scrape it clean while it is still warm, then wipe on a light coat of oil, like a cast-iron pan. A seasoning puck comes with the ONE20, ONE30 and 40" grills. The fire burns off most of what is left.
