Introduction:

Creating the most flavorful and visually stunning dishes is made easy with the Arteflame grill. The Arteflame sears meat at over 1,000°F for a steakhouse-quality sear and allows you to cook all your other food on its flat top griddle. This recipe for Gouda cheese crepes showcases the grill's versatility, providing a perfectly even sear without any grill marks and ensuring your food never burns.

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons melted butter
  • 1 cup Gouda cheese (sliced or schreded)
  • Maple Syrup (optional)
  • Vanilla extract / vanilla coffee creamer (optional)

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Crepe Batter: In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour and eggs. Gradually add in the milk and water, stirring to combine. Add the salt and melted butter, and beat until smooth.  If you want the crepes to taste more like an omelet, add another egg.
  2. NOTE: Add some vanilla to the batter or use some vanilla coffee creamer to give the crepes a nice slight sweet vanilla flavor.
  3. For an extra smooth texture, pour the batter through a strainer before using it.  This will removes all lumps, etc. and result in a silky smooth texture.
  4. Preheat the Grill: Fire up your Arteflame grill to medium-high heat to get it ready for grilling.
  5. Cook the Crepes: Add some butter to the flat top griddle of the Arteflame grill. Pour or scoop the batter onto the griddle, using approximately 1/4 cup for each crepe. Tilt the griddle with a circular motion so that the batter coats the surface evenly. Cook the crepe for about 2 minutes, until the bottom is light brown. Loosen with a spatula, flip and cook the other side.
  6. Add the Cheese: Once the crepes are cooked, sprinkle shredded Gouda cheese onto each crepe. Fold the crepes in half and then in half again to form a triangle, allowing the cheese to melt.  NOTE:  try putting cheese slices directly on the cooktop.  Once the cheese melts a bit, pour the batter over the cheese slices, covering the cheese completely.  Flip when the batter solidifies.  Doing it this way, you get a wonderful cheese crust.  Absolutely delicious.
  7. Serve: Remove the crepes from the grill and garnish with fresh herbs if desired. Serve warm.

Tips:

  • For a savory twist, add some sautéed spinach or ham along with the Gouda cheese.
  • Ensure the griddle is well-oiled to prevent the crepes from sticking.
