Ingredients
  • 2 cups water
  • 1 cup orange juice
  • 1½ cups sugar
  • 2 cinnamon sticks
  • 8 whole allspice berries
  • 1 star anise pod
  • 2 oranges, halved
  • 10 cloves, whole
  • 8 juniper berries
  • 1 lemon, halved
  • 1½ bottles Cabernet Sauvignon
  • Orange twists, for garnish
  • Cinnamon stick, for garnish

  1. Prepare the Arteflame Grill: Preheat your Arteflame grill, aiming for a medium-high heat.

  2. Mix the Base: In a large pot, combine the water, orange juice, sugar, cinnamon sticks, allspice, and star anise. Set the pot on the Arteflame grill and bring to a boil. Once boiling, move the pot to a cooler part of the grill to simmer.

  3. Add Citrus and Spices: Squeeze the juice of the orange halves into the pot, adding the squeezed rinds along with the cloves directly into the mixture. Repeat with the lemon. Toss in the juniper berries.

  4. Reduce: Let the mixture simmer until it has reduced by about half, stirring occasionally. This concentrates the flavors.

  5. Add Wine: Pour in the Cabernet Sauvignon, and let it warm through for a few minutes, avoiding a boil to keep the alcohol from evaporating.

  6. Serve: Once heated through, ladle the Glüwein into prepped mugs. Garnish each with an orange twist and a cinnamon stick.
