Dulce de Leche is a sweet, creamy caramel made from slowly simmering milk and sugar until it becomes thick and golden. This version uses the Arteflame grill for a unique outdoor cooking twist, giving the dulce de leche a subtle smoky undertone. Perfect for drizzling over desserts, spreading on toast, or eating by the spoonful! Perfect as a delicious desert when you're done grilling your meal!
Light the Arteflame grill using vegetable oil-soaked napkins and firewood. Let the grill heat for about 20 minutes until the flat cooktop reaches a low, even heat.
Open the can of sweetened condensed milk and pour it into a grill-safe pot or small cast iron skillet. Stir in vanilla extract and a pinch of salt, if desired, to enhance the flavor.
Place the pot on the outer edge of the flat cooktop, where the heat is lower. Stir occasionally and let the condensed milk simmer gently, thickening and caramelizing slowly. Continue cooking for about 1-2 hours, stirring every 10-15 minutes, until the mixture turns a rich golden brown and reaches a thick, creamy consistency.
Once the dulce de leche has thickened and darkened, remove it from the grill. Let it cool for a few minutes, then transfer to a jar or serving dish. You can serve it warm or refrigerate it for later use.
Grilled Dulce de Leche is a sweet and creamy treat that takes on a unique flavor when cooked on the Arteflame grill. Whether used as a dessert topping, a dip, or a spread, this rich caramel sauce is sure to be a favorite.
